Install the app

• Pawse.ai installs on your iPhone or iPad at launch. Either one runs every session.
  
  

  Pawse.ai arrives on the App Store in October, for iPhone and iPad.

• Use the same Apple Account on your iPhone and iPad, so your dog and your Premium carry across both.
• You do not need an Apple TV to use Pawse.ai. It is what keeps the sound playing after you leave the room, and it is part of Premium.

Set up your dog

1. Open the app and tap Begin setup. No account is needed to start.
2. Seven short steps, counted at the top. Your dog's name, then male or female, then a photo, then purebred or mixed and which breed, then age, then what they find stressful.
3. Only the name, the breed answer and the age are needed. The rest can be skipped and added later, and the photo step has Skip for now.
4. The last step shows your dog's sound plan, with the free environment ready to start and any Premium ones matched to what you said stresses them.
5. Home then asks What is happening right now? and lists the five environments.

Signing in with Apple is optional and can wait. It keeps all of this safe if you change phones. The app asks about notifications at the end of setup, not before.

Keeping the app updated

• Updates come through the App Store. Turn on automatic updates, or open the App Store, tap your profile and update Pawse.ai there.
• Update every device you use, so the iPhone, the iPad and the Apple TV stay on the same version.
• Your version is at the bottom of Settings, and on the Apple TV's pairing screen.

From your iPhone or iPad

• Nothing to set up. Start a session and it plays.
• Play through the device's own speaker, or connect a Bluetooth speaker and it follows.
• AirPlay is free. On the session screen, pick the AirPlay destination before you start, and the sound goes to that speaker.
• With the speaker, Bluetooth or AirPlay, the sound is still coming from your phone, so it has to stay in range. It keeps playing with the screen locked.

Pair an Apple TV

Pairing needs Premium and Sign in with Apple, because the television plays your dog's profile from your account.

1. Install Pawse.ai from the App Store on the Apple TV itself and open it. It shows an 8-character code.
2. On your iPhone, go to Settings, then Apple TV, and tap Pair an Apple TV.
3. Enter the code from the television.
4. The television plays a test sound. Set the room volume with the TV remote, then choose This level is right. That level is the reference for every session, so leave the TV volume alone afterwards.
5. The television says it is ready and waits. Leave Pawse.ai open on it, because it only listens while it is on screen.

To set the level again later, choose Re-calibrate volume on the television.

Using an iPad

• There is nothing to pair. Pawse.ai is one app for iPhone and iPad, and the iPad runs all of it, including the profile, the environments and the analytics.
• Install it on the iPad and sign in with the same Apple Account. Your dog and their history are already there.
• It looks different, and does the same things. Home, Dog and Settings sit in a bar at the top rather than at the bottom, and the wider screen puts your dog beside the environments instead of above them.
• Start a session on either device. The learning follows the dog, not the device.

Choose the environment

• Sleep. Wind down and settle for rest. This is the free one.
• Home Alone. Ease the quiet while you are away. Start it a few minutes before you leave.
• Loud Noise. Soften thunder, fireworks, and bangs. Start it before the noise where you can. It plays louder than the others on purpose.
• Travel. Relax while on the move. Start it before you set off.
• Vet Visit. Recover and settle after the vet. The quietest of the five.

Home marks the four paid environments with a lock. Tapping one explains what Premium adds.

Set it going

1. Tap the environment. The first time you open each one, a short Before you start card explains how that environment is meant to be used. Tap Got it to carry on.
2. Pick a duration under Session duration. 30m, 1h, 2h, or Custom for anything from 10 minutes to 8 hours. Each environment starts on the length that suits it.
3. Check Playing on underneath. Three choices sit there. This iPhone or iPad, AirPlay for a wireless speaker, and your Apple TV.
4. Tap Start session, put the phone down and step away.
5. The session screen counts down in a ring. End session stops it early.

Your first session in an environment runs quieter on purpose. It adapts as the app learns how your dog responds.

Where to put the speaker

• Same room as your dog, roughly at their level, and not pointed straight at them. The app says the same thing on screen.
• Closer is better than louder.
• Watch for settling, slower breathing, less pacing and fewer trips to the door. Those are what you answer afterwards.
• With AirPlay or Bluetooth the phone is the source, so keep it in range. A paired Apple TV plays on its own and you can leave.

Answer after every session

• Settled sooner than usual, for lying down, sleeping, or stopping pacing.
• About the same as usual, for no obvious difference.
• Restless, panting or hiding, for more than usual for your dog.
• I was not there, if you did not see it. This is the honest answer when you were out, and the app keeps that session out of the learning instead of acting on a guess.

If you miss the question

• The Lock Screen card turns into Tap to rate when the session ends. Tapping it opens the question.
• A notification arrives at the end as well, and opens the same place.
• If you miss both, Home shows the question at the top the next time you open the app. The three answers are there as buttons.

What your answer changes

• One setting at a time, so an answer means something. Change five things at once and no answer can tell you which one worked.
• Sessions under a minute do not teach the app anything. A rating that quick is about the tap, not the dog. The session is still recorded.
• Answer honestly rather than kindly. An optimistic answer locks in a setting that did nothing.
• Use the same environment more than once. It learns across sessions, not from one.
• The learning belongs to your dog, not to the device, so it follows them to your iPad and to the Apple TV.

What you get

• Home Alone, Loud Noise, Travel and Vet Visit. Sleep is already yours.
• The Apple TV app. It plays the session on its own, so the sound stays with your dog after you leave the house. AirPlay from your phone is free, but the phone has to stay in range.
• Full behaviour analytics. Which environment settles your dog best, the pattern by time of day, and the month and all-time ranges. Session counts, milestones and the trend stay free.
• €9.99 a month or €69.99 a year, which the app shows as €5.83 a month. There is no free trial.

Subscribing

1. Open a locked environment, or go to Settings and tap the Premium card.
2. Choose Monthly or Yearly, then Start Premium. Apple takes the payment, on the Apple Account signed in to the App Store on that device.
3. If you have no Pawse.ai account yet, the app offers Sign in with Apple once, straight after. It is worth doing, because the subscription belongs to your Apple Account while your dog's profile belongs to your Pawse.ai account. Not now keeps Premium either way.

One subscription covers your iPhone and your iPad, as long as both use the same Apple Account.

Restoring and cancelling

• Already paid but the environments are locked? Open the paywall and tap Restore at the bottom. If it answers Nothing to restore, the App Store on that device is signed in to a different Apple Account.
• Cancelling. Apple handles the billing. In Settings, the Premium card has Manage subscription, which opens Apple's own screen. You can also cancel in the App Store under your Apple Account.
• Cancel before you delete your account. Deleting removes your data, and does not stop Apple's billing.
• After a subscription ends, Sleep keeps working and your dog's profile and history stay where they are.

With and without an account

• Without one, everything works, and your dog's profile lives with the app on that one device.
• With Sign in with Apple, the profile, the history and the learned sound sit in your account. They come back on a new phone, and they appear on your iPad.
• An Apple TV needs an account, because the television plays your dog's profile rather than the phone's.
• Sign in from Settings, where the account card carries Apple's own button, or from Log in to your account on the opening screen.

Signing out

• Settings, then Sign out. The app asks to be sure, and the choices are Sign out and Stay signed in.
• Nothing is deleted. Your dog's profile stays in your account.
• The phone goes back to the opening screen, which says you are signed out and that your dog's profile is safe. Log in to your account brings everything back.
• Sign out is only offered once you have signed in with Apple. Without an account there would be no way back in.

Deleting your account

• Settings, then Delete account. The app asks once, with Delete everything and Keep my account.
• It removes your dog's profile, every session, and the tuning those sessions built up. It cannot be undone, and no copy is kept that could be restored afterwards.
• If you subscribe, cancel first. Apple bills the subscription and deleting your account here does not stop it.

The photo

• Tap the photo, then choose Take photo or Choose from library.
• The first time you use the camera, iOS asks permission. Pawse.ai only opens the camera when you choose to take a photo.
• A photo you take needs no connection to pick, which is the easier route if you are setting up away from Wi-Fi. A library photo stored in iCloud may have to download first.
• A paired Apple TV shows the new photo as well.

Changing the details

• Name, breed, age and sex are all editable from the Dog tab.
• Changing the breed or the age changes how the sound is built, from the next session onwards.
• A name change reaches a paired Apple TV when the next session starts.
• One dog per account for now.

The card on the Lock Screen

• While it plays, the card shows the environment, where it is playing, the time left, and a Stop button.
• If a call interrupts it, the card offers Resume. Tapping it starts the sound again.
• When the session ends, the card turns into Tap to rate. Tapping it opens the question.
• On an iPhone with the Dynamic Island, the same controls are there.

What the app sends

• At the end of a session, a notification titled Sleep finished, or whichever environment it was, asking how your dog settled.
• Thirty minutes into a long session played from the phone, a single Still going? check in. Once per session, never more.
• That is all. There is no marketing, and nothing arrives between sessions.
• Turn them off with Allow notifications in Settings. The sound and the learning work exactly the same without them.

What helps us most

• Which environment you were using.
• Where it was playing. The iPhone or iPad itself, AirPlay, Bluetooth, or an Apple TV.
• Your app version, at the bottom of Settings, if you are writing through the form.
• Your dog's breed or mix, and what was happening in the room.
• What you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot helps.
